Police from Arlington Heights and Metra, and firefighters and paramedics from Arlington Heights responded about 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2026 to a report that a Metra train on the Union Pacific Northwest Line hit a pedestrian in Arlington Heights near Northwest Highway and Ridge Avenue. The victim was discovered at Northwest Highway and Patton Avenue. Arlington Heights Fire Department paramedics reported the victim was deceased at the scene.
Metra police are investigating the incident. Inbound Metra train #650 was the train involved with the pedestrian incident. Outbound Train #631 was canceled due to the pedestrian incident.
Inbound an outbound train movement was restored at about 2:40 p.m. with trains passing Metra train #650, slowly with caution. The right lane of eastbound Northwest Highway was blocked near the scene.
The identity of the victim, was not released; and police were working to provide notification of family on Monday afternoon.
A witness said the train engineer used the horn for a long time, while attempting to stop the train to avoid hitting the pedestrian.
