TUE NOV 18 2008 — A third defended attack fended off by India’s Naval warship INS Tabar has resulted in a pirate mother ship blown up and destroyed in the Gulf of Aden about 285 nautical miles southwest of Salalah, Oman. The short battle with Somali pirates began when men on deck of the pirate ship with rocket-propelled grenade launchers and guns threatened to blow up the INS Tabar.  The INS Tabar then fired upon the pirates, and fire and explosions destroyed the pirates’ boat. The pirates fled the incident in speed boats that were being towed by their mother ship.

India deployed the INS Tabar to escort Indian ships on November 2, 2008.
