Police, firefighters, and paramedics from Chicago, and firefighters and paramedics from Hometown Fire Protection District responded about 8:04 a.m. Thursday, November 20, 2025 to a report of a crash with injuries involving Metra at 87th Street and South Pulaski Road in Chicago. A Chicago fire crew reported the SUV did not strike the train, but Metra police were investigating the incident as a train strike with a black 2012 Ford Explorer following a roadway crash involving the Ford Explorer and a silver Toyota that occurred near the tracks at 87th Street and Pulaski Road.
Chicago Fire Department Battalion Chief 20 and Truck 31 were assigned to the crash. Truck 31 on arrival reported a car smashed on the tracks with a Metra train on scene. The Metra train was stopped at the scene, but according to Truck 31’s crew, the train did not strike the vehicle. Apparently there was a two-vehicle crash near the tracks, and one of the vehicles spun out onto the tracks, but initially there was conflicting information regarding whether the Ford Explorer and Metra Train #808 actually collided. In the Citizen app video, there appeared to be front-end and rear-end damage to the Ford Explorer and debris on the railroad tracks, so it is likely that the train and Ford Explorer collided after the primary road crash.
Battalion Chief 20 reported that one EMS patient was transported Code Green by CFD Ambulance 18 to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. There were three medical refusals according to Battalion Chief 20. Metra police reported two patients were in the ambulance (CFD A18) together. A Hometown Fire Protection District ambulance also transported one patient to Advocate Christ Medical Center. Two patients on the train, and then a third patient on the train, were also assessed by paramedics. Two passengers refused EMS treatment and transport, but the third passenger was transported by CFD Ambulance 27.
