Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched an early morning large-scale air strike “Operation Rising Lion” targeting Iranian nuclear facilities and military infrastructure. As of 6:30 a.m. Local Israeli time (GMT+3), the Israeli Air Force carried out five waves of strikes, targeting dozens of sites, including locations associated with Iran’s nuclear program and key military commanders and bases. The Mossad (Israeli intelligence collection, covert operations, and counter-terrorism) also conducted secret sabotage missions targeting Iran’s air defense systems and missile infrastructure.

Around 3:00 a.m. local time, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz declared a national state of emergency, warning of an imminent missile and drone retaliation from Iran. Air raid sirens activated in Israel in anticipation of a possible Iranian counterattack.

Katz described Israel’s attack on Iran as a “preemptive strike” prompted by intelligence indicating Iran had amassed enough enriched uranium to produce up to 15 nuclear weapons within days.

Netanyahu described Iran’s nuclear efforts as a clear and present danger to Israel’s survival and emphasized that Israel’s action also defended its Arab neighbors from Iranian aggression. As of 04:35 a.m., Israel’s time, Iran has not responded. Netanyahu convened the security cabinet as the situation unfolded. Netanyahu announced that Operation Rising Lion is a military campaign dedicated to targeting Iran’s main enrichment facility, nuclear scientists, and parts of its ballistic missile program, declaring it would continue until Iran responded positively. However, Iran vowed to respond militarily, missiles reached Tel Aviv in the 9:00 p.m. hour Friday. Medics in Tel Aviv reported no medical calls received after impacts from Iranian missiles. At least 3 impacts were observed by reporters Friday by 10:00 p.m. GMT+3.

Explosion were reported near a critical nuclear facility in Natanz in Isfahan province. Iranian state TV confirmed “loud explosions” near the site, where two uranium enrichment plants are located. Nuclear sites at Khondab and Khorramabad were also targeted by Israel.

Fars News Agency, which is linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps or Iranian Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), reported multiple homes hit in Shahrak-e Mahallati, where high-ranking Iranian military officers reside. The headquarters of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps was burning after the air strike mission by Israel.

The Jerusalem Post reported the following key casualties in Iran …

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Commander Hossein Salami and several of his bodyguards were killed (in the opening strike of Israel’s Operation Rising Lion).

Dr. Fereydoun Abbasi, nuclear scientist, along with his wife and child.

Dr. Abdulhamid Minouchehr, nuclear scientist.

Ahmadreza Zolfaghari, nuclear scientist.

Iranian authorities suspended flights at Imam Khomeini international airport, where initially there were no reports of damage.

Israel indicated that the air strikes were not anticipated by Tehran.

The White House responded shortly after the attack, stating that the United States was not involved in the Israeli attacks. Subsequently, the White House is primarily concerned with the safety of troops in the area.

I fled Iran as a child, carrying in my heart the memories of women beaten in the streets for daring to wear makeup, of girls whose only crime was letting a strand of hair escape their scarves, and of neighbors dragged off to prison for refusing to bend to the regime’s cruelty. Tonight, as I watched the news of Israeli strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites, I felt a surge of hope: not for the destruction itself, but for the first glimmer of freedom for the people trapped under a government that gouges out women’s eyes for their clothes and tortures dissidents for daring to think differently. This regime has forced every schoolchild to chant “Death to America,” has backed the October 7 terror on Israel, has sent suicide drones against our troops at sea, and has spent decades sharpening its tools of oppression.

I do not celebrate the loss of life, but I rejoice that these subterranean breeding grounds of tyranny—those uranium enrichment halls and shadowy military bases—have been struck. For too long, the world stood by as the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps brutalized minorities, silenced journalists, and exported terror. Tonight’s operation is more than a military maneuver; it is a message that no regime which tortures its own citizens and plots mass murder abroad can be allowed to finish the path to a weapon of genocide.

To the brave Iranian people, I pray you find strength in this moment. May you rise up from the ashes of fear and reclaim the stolen streets and schools of your homeland. My heart is with you as you whisper prayers of liberation—may your courage ignite a revolution of compassion, equality, and secular rule, banishing the mullahs’ darkness once and for all.

And let the world hear this clearly: Iran must never, under any circumstance, be allowed to hold a nuclear arsenal. A regime that flogs teenage girls for posting a dance video would not hesitate to unleash devastation on its neighbors. Stand with Israel tonight, stand with the oppressed in Iran.
