Police, firefighters and paramedics from Arlington Heights responded about 10:04 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2024 to a report of a house fire in the block of 700 Carlyle Lane in Arlington Heights. There was a report of black smoke coming out of the house.

The first fire crew on arrival reported black smoke showing from the back of the house — possibly out of the basement area of the home.

All occupants of the house were safely evacuated.

Heavy, brown smoke was coming out of the front of the garage when the garage door was opened.

The fire was possibly located in a crawl space, and radio reports indicated that the source of the fire was not immediately discovered.

Fire suppression continued 45 minutes after the fire was reported as firefighters were soaking debris in the crawl space. Firefighters were ordered not to enter the crawl space to fight the fire. Firefighters used a thermal image camera to locate hot spots in the basement and crawl space to completely extinguish the fire. Firefighters also used the thermal image camera to check for fire extension in other areas of the house.

Initially, no injuries were reported.

Firefighters and paramedics from Buffalo Grove, Mount Prospect and Prospect Heights provided mutual aid assistance at the fire scene.

Firefighters and paramedics from Palatine and Schaumburg provided fire station coverage in Arlington Heights. A Schaumburg Fire Department ambulance crew and a Palatine fire engine crew were assigned an EMS call at Luther Village while firefighters were extinguishing the house fire on Carlyle Lane.
