The Lake County Coroner’s Office on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 released the identity of a 29 year-old woman, Belen Estrada, who was killed in a single-vehicle rollover crash in unincorporated Woodstock, Illinois on Friday, May 17, 2024.

Woodstock Fire/Rescue District firefighters and paramedics and McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies responded about 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2024 to a report of a vehicle crash with entrapment in the area of Dean Street and Gayle Drive in unincorporated Woodstock — south of Woodstock and south of the Kishwaukee Headwaters Conservation Area.

Firefighters arrived on the scene and found a single-vehicle rollover crash with heavy damage. One victim was trapped in the vehicle and a second victim was on the ground receiving CPR from a bystander.

Both victims, ages 22 and 29, were transported by medical helicopter to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office. One of the women was transported directly to Advocated Condell Medical Center via a LifeNet helicopter. The other woman was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital and then transferred by a REACT helicopter to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

On Friday, May 17, 2024, the Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified of the death of the passenger from the crash.

The deceased has been identified as 29-year-old Belen Estrada, of Woodstock. Preliminary coroner’s investigation, including a review of medical records, indicate that Belen Estrada died from blunt force injuries suffered as a result of the crash.

Preliminary investigation indicates the driver of a 2003 Toyota Corolla was traveling southbound on Dean Street, crossed over the oncoming northbound lanes, and exited the roadway to the left (east side) while north of the intersection with Gayle Drive. The driver then re-entered Dean Street and crossed to an off-road area to the west side of Dean Street. After driving off the road for the second time, the Toyota Corolla was driven across Gayle Drive, and the vehicle rolled over and struck a tree at the southwest corner of the T-intersection of Dean Street and Gayle Drive.

Dean Street was shut down between Route 176 and Lucas Road during rescue and an extended crash investigation.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Traffic Crash Investigation Unit is investigating the crash. Dean Street is a two-lane rural highway with very narrow shoulders, and has some rolling hills just north of the intersection with Gayle Drive. Southbound traffic also has a slight left-hand curve before the intersection with Gayle Drive.

The Speed Limit on Dean Street is 50 MPH, according to Google Maps Street View images captured September 2023.

High speed and alcohol consumption are being investigated as possible factors involved in the crash.
