Three School Buses in Rear-End Crash on I-55, Minor Injuries Reported Among 11 School Children

Illinois State Police Troop 3 responded to a multi-unit crash involving three school buses on northbound I-55 at Milepost 246 near Braidwood in Will County. Three 2024 Yellow IC School Busses, were traveling northbound in the right lane as traffic slowed to a stop. The last school bus driver in the line of traveling buses was unable to stop in time and struck the rear of the middle school bus, which then struck the rear of the first school bus.




Eleven children were transported by paramedics assigned to a MABAS EMS Box Alarm to local area hospitals with minor injuries. No additional vehicles were involved. All remaining passengers were accounted for and returned to their school for release to their parents. All lanes have been re-opened. The bus driver that was last in line was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid a Crash.
