Parent company Bloomin’ Brands announced in an earnings call Friday, February 23, 2024 that 41 underperforming locations” including Outback Steakhouse, Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Bonefish Grill and Fleming’s Steakhouse & Wine Bar are permanently closing, and then abruptly shut down the business locations by Monday with little notice to employees and customers.

Bloomin’ Brands announced in the earnings call that the closed locations were due to a “variety of factors,” including sales, shrinking customer traffic, and financial investments that were too costly to improve the locations. According to Bloomin’ Brands CEO David Deno, a “majority of these restaurants were older assets with leases from the ’90s and early 2000s.”

By the end of the day Friday, 33 restaurants were closed.

Most of the closures were Outback Steakhouse restaurants.
