A high-speed motorcycle crash with an SUV Thursday at 7:12 p.m. killed the motorcyclist and injured another person, caused the motorcycle to become engulfed in flames, and prompted a crash investigation that closed Algonquin Road in both directions until about 1:20 a.m. Thursday.

Police, firefighters and paramedics from Rolling Meadows responded about 7:12 p.m. Thursday, July 13, 2023 to a report of a motorcycle crash with an SUV with the motorcyclist unresponsive and the motorcycle on fire.

Police were first on the scene with firefighters and paramedics arriving immediately afterward from a Rolling Meadows fire station less than one-half mile away.

The first fire crew on arrival reported a motorcycle on fire, and that the crash involved in a GMC SUV. The motorcyclist was down, unresponsive on the driver’s side of the SUV, and the motorcycle was located burning on the passenger side of the SUV. There was severe damage from the collision on the passenger side of the GMC SUV.

Truck 15’s crew reported they had a second patient, and fire command requested a second ambulance by 7:17 p.m. Witnesses said paramedics performed CPR on the motorcyclist for a short time, but then covered the motorcyclist’s body with a blue tarp — located at the median of the entrance to the Carriageway Court condominium complex on the south side of Algonquin Road.

Witnesses at the scene said the motorcyclist may have been riding with another motorcyclist, who was not involved in the collision. Several motorcyclists were seen passing nearby to observe the crash scene for an hour or two after the crash occurred.

Algonquin Road was closed in both directions between Kimball Hill Drive and Barker Avenue until about 1:20 a.m. The northwest suburban Major Case Assistance Team — Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction unit (MCAT-STAR) along with Rolling Meadows police crash investigators worked through the night at the crash scene. A drone captured images of the crash scene, along with a photographer at street level.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiners Office, a male, age 23, from Lockport, Illinois was killed in the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

LIVE TRAFFIC MAP …

From unofficial observation of the scene, the motorcyclist was apparently eastbound on Algonquin Road at a high rate of speed when the collision occurred. The driver of the GMC SUV may have been westbound Algonquin Road and making a left turn to proceed southbound into the Carriageway Court condominium complex driveway when the crash occurred. The intersection is controlled by stoplight signals, and the Speed Limit on Algonquin Road near the scene is 35 MPH.

The information in this article is an early report published before any complete summary information was confirmed or released by police or fire authorities.
