Johnsonville Brats, Dick Butkus and Mike Eruzione: Fun Events at Mariano’s Fresh Market

More fun events are kicking off the week at Mariano’s Fresh Market. Tattoo fun, jazz music, a Johnsonville bratwurst grilling event, and celebrity appearances by Dick Butkus and Mike Eruzione mark the fun starting Sunday.

Dick Butkus #51 (career stats) widely regarded as the greatest linebacker of his generation and of all time. Butkus starred as a football player for the University of Illinois and the Chicago Bears. He became a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1979. He played 9 seasons in the NFL for the Chicago Bears. Dick Butkus also has quite a list of acting and appearances on IMDB.com.


Mike Eruzione
(career stats) is an Italian-American former ice hockey player who was the captain of the 1980 Winter Olympics United States national team that defeated the Soviet Union in the famous Miracle on Ice game.

Eruzione retired from competition after the Olympics, despite contract offers from the New York Rangers, stating that he’d reached the pinnacle of achievement already. Eruzione then became a television broadcaster, grabbing the microphone at Rangers and New Jersey Devils games and for the NHL on USA Network, and going on to comment at five Olympic Games, working for both ABC and CBS.

Mariano’s Opens: Huge Crowd is Happy with New Area Grocer; Hours, Images and Details

Roundy’s opened their first Mariano’s Fresh Market in the country in Arlington Heights, Illinois on Tuesday, July 20, 2010. The front of the store has a large home town good old days look with an arched front window. A full line of cash registers spans to the north with spacious aisles to the rear of the store — the western wall. The aisles are clearly labeled and the shelves are stocked to the max. A beautiful floral shop stands at the front-center of the store. Customer service is at the front of the store in front of the checkout lanes.

Frozen food is located at the front, northeast corner of the store. Dairy makes up the back northwest corner of the store. Meats line the back of the store at the west wall, and meat and seafood are located at the southwest corner at the back of the store. At the south-central area of the store, you will find produce, bulk foods, liquor, health & beauty and a pharmacy. The far south section of the store houses from front-to-back: a coffee bar, restrooms, salad bar, deli, indoor/outdoor bistro, sushi, and a bakery.

The cafe/deli in the store about 70,000 square-feet in size has a full kitchen and sells dinner entrees, chicken, pizza, sandwiches and appetizers.

The store lives up to it’s motto. Shop well. Eat well. Live well. There is a bike rack near the north front doors and no cigarettes are sold at the store.

MEET THE CHAMPS!
Two players from the 2010 Chicago Blackhawks Stanley Cup Championship team, Dave Bolland and Adam Burish; and Super Bowl XX Chicago Bears Head Coach Mike Ditka will highlight grand opening events this July at Mariano’s Fresh Market.

Dave Bolland (#36) will be at Mariano’s Fresh Market, 802 East Northwest Highway, Arlington Heights on Tuesday, July 20th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Bolland was selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the second round (32nd overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, and won the Stanley Cup with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Adam Burish (#37) will be at Mariano’s Fresh Market, 802 East Northwest Highway, Arlington Heights on Tuesday, July 20th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Burish was drafted in the 9th round of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, 282nd overall by the Chicago Blackhawks. He won the Stanley Cup with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2010. On July 1, 2010, Burish signed a 2 year deal with the Dallas Stars at $1.15 million per year.

MEET DA COACH
Mike Ditka, ESPN football analyst, will be at Mariano’s Fresh Market, 802 East Northwest Highway, Arlington Heights on Thursday, July 22 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Under head coach Mike Ditka, who won the 1985 NFL Coach of the Year Award, the Chicago Bears went 15-1 in the regular season, becoming the second NFL team to win 15 regular season games. Mike Ditka coached the Chicago Bears for 11 years and New Orleans Saints for 3 years. Ditka and Tom Flores are the only two people to win Super Bowls as a player, an assistant coach and a head coach. Ditka was the only individual to participate in the last two Chicago Bears’ championships, as a player in 1963 and as head coach in 1985.

Coming July 6: Monthly ‘Gallery Dinner’ Forges Relationships, Sale of Artwork at Pamela’s Parkside Grill; New Art/Dinner/Discussion

Combining fine art with fine cuisine, Pamela’s Parkside Grill, 27 W. Campbell St., Tuesday, July 6, 6:00 p.m., hosts its one-of-a-kind monthly “Gallery Dinner” where artists display and discuss their work with diners at each table during their four-course meal. Cost is $25 per person making reservations up to one week in advance, or $30 after that date. Reservations are required by calling the restaurant at (847) 394-2728. Featured at the July 6 event are recognized artists Gary Swiontek (photographs), Sandra Fink May (painting/mixed media), Judy Edelman (textural painting), Sandie Bacon (painting), and Pamela Olin-Maybloom (steel sculpture and painting).

Beginning at 6:00 p.m., diners will view the artists work, then sit down for a special meal featuring an appetizer, soup or salad, entrée, and dessert. In an intimate dining experience, each artist will rotate tables for each course to let diners learn more about them and their work.

Cindi Cronin Returns to Pamela’s Parkside Grill, Singer of Standards, Sinatra Saturday, June 12

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS – Vocal artist Cindi Cronin sings standards, Sinatra, and more in a return engagement Saturday, June 12 at 8:00 p.m., at Pamela’s Parkside Grill, 27 W. Campbell St., Arlington Heights.

Cronin, who is being joined by Mingus Matkus on saxophone, sings melodies that serve as suitable background during dining; she will follow with a second set so diners may take to the dance floor.

Pamela’s Parkside Grill, the only upscale, non-ethnic restaurant in the town’s bustling downtown
restaurant community, features an eclectic menu of grilled seafood and fine meats as well as several sauced dishes plus flambé desserts. The food offerings are complemented by unique artwork by local artists which is available for purchase.

Cindi Cronin made her theatrical/ vocal debut in 1972 at Salley’s Stage, a musical pizza eatery, as a Saturday night entertainer. In addition, in 1978 was a primary performer in Chicago Public Libraries “Vaudeville“ production. Other theatrical credits include six years at The Kings Manor Dinner Theater as a cast member/ solo performer. (1978-1983). In addition to her vocal talents, Cindi attended Loyola University in 1978 to receive her certification as a Paramedic.. Working at Lutheran General Hospital 1979- 1985 was exciting but, music was her passion. After having two children and opening a party decorating business (for the past twenty years) entertaining was a must. In 1999 she met Lou Elia, a Chicagoland music promoter and has been singing ever since. Her present credits as a solo artist include: In Illinois, 3 Olives in Norridge, Valley Low Country Club in Glenview, Gionattis Resaurant in Schiller Park, Al Di La in Oakbrook, Dover Straits in Hoffman Estates. In Indiana, she has performed at the Indiana Beach Resort. She has also performed live with the Joe Valentino Trio, 200 East Supper Club in downtown Chicago.

When will Mariano’s open?
Both the front entrance sign and the corner sign at Kensington and Dryden is up and on display at the new Mariano’s Fresh Market. Landscaping is underway and the parking lot shopping cart racks complete with a roof were installed today. Looks like they will be stocking the shelves soon. Word is out that the first Mariano’s Fresh Market, a new supermarket from Roundy’s of Wisconsin, will open July 19 in Arlington Heights with a charity event. The regular store opening is planned for July 20, 2010.

Not only is the fresh market store a huge grocer, it will feature an indoor-outdoor cafe/deli area, an eat-in sushi bar, Italian espresso and gelato cafe, European bakery, wood-fired pizza station, custom sandwiches including panini, food sampling, catering, and a wine and beer department specializing in pairings with customers’ menus. Mariano’s Fresh Market has not officially confirmed the July opening.
