Police, firefighters and paramedics from Mount Prospect responded about 10:05 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2026 to a fire in a manufactured home at the Blackhawk Estates community in the block of 400 West Touhy Avenue.
Engine 11 arrived on scene within six minutes and reported flames showing from a manufactured home. Firefighters quickly worked to extinguish the fire, bringing it under control within approximately seven minutes and containing the fire to the home of origin. The quick knock down of the fire prevented the fire from spreading to neighboring homes.
“Fires in manufactured home communities can be challenging due to limited water supply and how close the homes are to one another. Engine 11 was able to get water on the fire quickly and keep it from spreading to nearby homes.”
— Fire Chief Tom Wang
The Des Plaines Fire Department assisted on scene. One occupant was home at the time of the fire and was able to evacuate safely prior to the arrival of fire crews. The resident was transported to a local hospital as a precaution with non-life-threatening injuries.
The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental and remains under investigation. Damage is estimated at approximately $35,000.
