
Police, firefighters and paramedics from St. Charles responded about 8:52 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2026 to a report of a crash involving an SUV and a motorcycle at the intersection of Country Club Road and North 5th Avenue (Route 25) in St. Charles. A witness on scene reported that the driver of the involved SUV may have fled the scene.
Upon arrival, police and fire located the injured driver of the motorcycle and immediately began to render treatment. The motorcyclist, a 27-year-old male from Elgin, was subsequently transported to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
St. Charles Police located the SUV and the driver nearby. The driver of the SUV was identified as Morgan Mroz, age 29, of West Chicago (Kane County records indicated residency on Campton Trail Road in St. Charles). Further investigation into the crash resulted in the arrest of Mroz.
The Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team (KCART) assisted St. Charles Police Department with the crash investigation, and responded to the scene, which was located in northeast St. Charles near Wayne, Illinois.
Route 25 (5th Avenue) is a two-lane highway with a narrow soft shoulder. The Speed Limit on Route 25 is 45 MPH, according to Google Maps Street View images captured June 2025. The intersection at Route 25 and Country Club Road is controlled by a stopight.
There is a left turn lane from northbound Route 25 to the entrance to the Q Center, which is located on the west side of intersection.
There is a left turn lane from southbound Route 25 to eastbound Country Club Road, which is located on the east side of intersection.
There is a left turn lane from westbound Country Club Road to southbound Route 25. Country Club Road is a curbed two-lane street with a Speed Limit of 35 MPH, according to Google Maps Street View images captured June 2025.
The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office was contacted, and the following charges were approved against Mroz:
Failure to Report Crash or Death (Class-1 Felony)
Aggravated DUI – Crash Causing Death (Class-2 Felony, 2-Counts)
Reckless Homicide (Class 3 Felony)
Possession of Controlled Substance – Other Drug (Class 4 Felony)
Four Additional Traffic Citations
Megan Mroz was then transported to the Kane County Jail for a conditions and detention hearing. Mroz was detained pre-trial in the Kane County Adult Justice Center, where she was booked April 2, 2026 at 8:04 a.m.
These charges against Mroz are not proof of guilt. She is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
