DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Naperville Chief of Police Jason Arres announced yesterday, Wednesday, February 4, 2026, that Judge Joshua Dieden has granted the State’s motion to deny pre-trial release for a Downers Grove man accused of hiding a loaded weapon under an occupied child car seat. Antoine Street, age 40, of the 5800 block of Lee Avenue, appeared in First Appearance Court Wednesday morning charged with one count of Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon Concealed in a Vehicle – No FOID or CCL (Class 4 Felony) and one count each of Misdemeanor charges including Resisting a Police Officer, Endangering the Health or Life of a Child and Unlawful Possession of Cannabis by a Passenger.

On Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at approximately 10:47 p.m., Naperville Police Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle whose registered owner, later identified as Street, had active warrants out of Cook County. During the traffic stop, officers made contact with Antoine Street who was seated in the rear passenger seat behind the front passenger seat. Officers also observed that next to Street, in the middle seat, was a child car seat with a one-year-old child seated in it. When police officers informed Antoine Street that he was under arrest and asked him to exit the vehicle, he resisted and ultimately had to be forced out by officers, after which officers placed him under arrest. During a search of the vehicle, police officers located a loaded 9mm Ruger pistol with one bullet in the chamber under the child car seat in which his daughter was sitting. The Ruger was less than an inch away from where Street was sitting and that the handle of the gun was facing the defendant with the barrel pointed towards the driver’s side of the vehicle enabling quick access. Also, when police officers took Antoine Street into custody, he was unlawfully in possession of approximately thirty-two grams of cannabis.

“The very idea that someone would hide a loaded weapon, with one bullet in the chamber, under an occupied child car seat where their infant daughter was sitting is inconceivable. Thankfully, officers were able to remove the weapon before tragedy struck. I commend the Naperville Police Department for their heads-up work on this case and for their continued efforts in keeping our communities safe. I also thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Sean Kinsella and Jennifer Nielsen for their efforts in securing charges against Mr. Street.”

— DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin

“Naperville has some of the most proactive, dedicated police officers a community could ask for. Arrests like this highlight the fact that our officers aren’t just sitting around waiting for the next 9-1-1 call to come in. They’re out there patrolling, conducting traffic stops, and making this city safer. With their effort and the support of State’s Attorney Bob Berlin’s office, we’ll continue to take offenders off the streets and hold them accountable for breaking the law and endangering our community.”

— Naperville Chief of Police Jason Arres

Antoine Street’s next court appearance is scheduled for March 2, 2026, in front of Judge Ann Celine O’Hallaren Walsh.

Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
