An elderly pedestrian was hit and killed by a vehicle Wednesday morning on Algonquin Road near Meadowbrook Industrial Court in Rolling Meadows. The pedestrian identified as as William Capozzielli, age 70, lived a few hours after being hit, but was pronounced dead at an undisclosed hospital at 1:29 p.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2026.
Police, firefighters and paramedics from Rolling Meadows responded about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 4, 2026 to a report of a man down in the roadway after being hit by a car near Driven Car Wash, 2765 Algonquin Road in Rolling Meadows.
Police officers on arrival they located an adult male down, unresponsive in the roadway. The man had been using a blue 4-wheel walker to assist his walking. Police provided assistance to the pedestrian, and Rolling Meadows Fire Department paramedics provided EMS treatment. Rolling Meadows Fire Department paramedics transported the patient to an undisclosed hospital, where the victim was later pronounced dead.
After striking the pedestrian, the driver of a white Audi pulled into a nearby gas station. The Audi was observed with right front damage. According to the Rolling Meadows Police Department, the driver is cooperating with authorities. The crash is currently being investigated by the Rolling Meadows Police Department with assistance from the Major Case Assistance Team Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Star (MCAT-STAR) team.
Algonquin Road is four lanes wide, two lanes in each direction, with dedicated left turn lanes nearby. The Speed Limit on Algonquin Road is 35 MPH, according to Google maps Street view images captured November 2019.
During the crash investigation, Algonquin Road was closed in both directions between Barker Avenue and New Wilke Road, and the road closure continued into the afternoon hours Wednesday.
The Meadowbrook Industrial Court roadway intersects with Algonquin Road at slight oblique angle, making visibility more difficult for northbound traffic to make a left turn onto westbound Algonquin Road. Meadowbrook Industrial Court runs due north, but Alqoniun Roads runs northwest at about a 30-degree angle. There are plans to realign Meadowbrook Industrial Court to intersection perpendicular to Algonquin Road.
The night before the crash, traffic and safety concerns were discussed about the intersection of Algonquin Road and Meadowbrook Industrial Court as part of a meeting of the Rolling Meadows Planning and Zoning Commission which involved a proposal for a 180 Chicago Church facility move in to a building at 5550 Meadowbrook Industrial Court near the intersection. Currently 180 Chicago Church has a location at 1550 South State Street in Chicago’s South Loop, and 1000 Wellington Avenue in Elk Grove Village.
