CARDINAL NEWS Domestic Violence Suspect Charged with Murder, Accused of Stabbing Woman at Schaumburg Town Square After Relationship Ended
A passerby told CARDINAL NEWS that police officers seemed to be giving first aid, possibly CPR, to a woman on the ground. During the investigation in daylight, there was an Ambu-Bag (EMS airway ventilation device) and tubing visible on the ground near driver’s side of the Range Rover, which indicates Advance Life Support medical treatment was likely used to attempt to save the woman’s life. Initially, the Cook County Medical Examiners Office did not indicate the cause of death, and the Schaumburg Police Department did not indicate if a weapon was involved.
Later in the day, Schaumburg Police Department released the identity of the female victim as Jenny Rodriguez, age 37, of Des Plaines. The victim’s family was notified and offered additional assistance, according to the Schaumburg Police Department.
Another person that was in the area told CARDINAL NEWS that he heard a woman’s voice screaming for help and “other muffled sounds” around 5:25 a.m., but he “didn’t know where the screaming was coming from” and he didn’t see anything. Jenny Rodriguez was likely in a white Range Rover that was facing south when she was attacked. The Range Rover was parked southbound in the parking lot in front of Bonefish Grill near the driveway to Roselle Road that is located between Bonefish Grill and the Wells Fargo Bank.
It is unknown if any businesses were open that early in the morning, although there is a personal training business located in the strip mall where Bonefish Grill is located.
During the day Tuesday, Schaumburg police were investigating the Range Rover and a gray Mazda CX-50 that was parked facing north about 40 yards northwest of the Range Rover. Both vehicles had Chicago Cubs stylized Illinois license plates.
There was a child’s car seat installed in the back of the Range Rover, and a purse or handbag in the front seat. Also, there were Uggs boots or Uggs-like boots on the ground on the parking lot surface near the driver’s side of the Range Rover. A black shoe and white socks were also on the ground near the driver’s side of the Range Rover.
The Schaumburg Police Department did not indicate whether the person in custody was a suspect, and stated that charges were not anticipated Tuesday night. The identity of the male in custody was also not released by police. There appeared to be security cameras that could have captured images of the crime; however, it is initially unknown if the cameras were operating and recording. There are several businesses and facilities located nearby, including Tony’s Fresh Market, the Schaumburg Township District Library, and the Trickster Cultural Center.
According to the Schaumburg Police Department, the preliminary investigation indicates this was a domestic-related incident, the victim and the person in custody knew each other, and that the case was an isolated incident with no threat to the public.
There was a large police presence in the area. Schaumburg police described the investigation as an active investigation.
