The Lake County Coroner’s Office released the identity of a male employee at an auto repair shop, crushed by a vehicle that fell off of a lift, as Matthew Pfister, age 37, of North Chicago.

Police, firefighters and paramedics from Wauconda Police Department and Wauconda Fire District responded about 8:52 a.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2025 to Hard Times General Repair, 398 West Liberty Street for a report of a person trapped beneath a vehicle. First responders arrived and found a 37-year-old male pinned under the front of a car after it appeared to have fallen off a vehicle lift at the vehicle repair business. Wauconda firefighters lifted the vehicle, and removed the Matthew Pfister, but unfortunately he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified that an employee at the business had died, and responded to the scene.

The deceased was identified as 37-year-old Matthew Pfister, of North Chicago. On Wednesday, November 26, 2025, an autopsy was conducted at the Lake County Coroner’s Office. Preliminary autopsy results indicate that Matthew Pfister died from blunt force injuries as a result of the incident.

The incident investigation is on going by the Wauconda Police Department and the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

Preliminary information indicates that the vehicle was elevated about 5 feet above the ground on a lift when the rear end of the vehicle came off of the lift while the victim was underneath the vehicle. Matthew Pfister was unable to exit the area under the car before the front end came down as well, causing the vehicle to fall completely, and crush him under the vehicle.
