A semi-trailer truck fire on northbound I-294 between Touhy Avenue and Oakton Street near Rosemont caused major delays during the evening rush house Thursday, October 9, 2025. Riverside Drive was closed so that a fire department ladder truck could stream water over the sound barrier wall on the burning cab and trailer of the semi-trailer truck on I-29e4 from Riverside Drive.

Only one lane of the northbound Tri-State Tollway (I-294) was open during firefighting operations to extinguish the truck fire.

Northbound I-294 traffic was backed up past Cermak Road at 5:45 p.m.
