Police, firefighters and paramedics from Palatine responded about 8:30 a.m. Saturday, September 20, 2025 to a report of a single-vehicle crash involving a pickup truck in front of Chase Bank, 1131 East Dundee Road in Palatine. A 9-1-1 caller, one of many callers, reported the driver was not moving after the crash. Police, firefighters and paramedics on arrival discovered a male adult entrapped in a black Dodge Ram pickup truck with severe damage near the driver’s side door and front-end damage after the truck hit a tall metal street light pole and a tree large tree.
Firefighters worked with a battery powered Hurst extrication tool and rapidly removed the driver’s door and then removed the patient from the vehicle’s driver’s side opening.
The driver, a 21 year-old male from Chicago, was the sole occupant of the pickup truck, and was transported with life-threatening injuries to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.
According to the Palatine Police Department, Dundee Road was closed from approximately 8:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Westbound Dundee Road was open, but eastbound Dundee Road was entirely closed with emergency fire department vehicles working on extrication of the driver.
No other vehicles were involved.
A witness on the scene said that he saw the driver of the pickup truck speeding, and that it appeared the driver was attempting to pass on the right of another motorist that was also speeding. The witness didn’t think that the two motorists were racing. He did hear a very loud revving of the engine of the black pickup truck. The driver said he saw the driver attempt to stop after he lost control. The witness said he heard loud screeching from the braking of the wheels and the tires on the pavement.
The investigation of the crash is ongoing, according to Palatine Police Department. Anyone with information or video is asked to contact the Palatine Police Department at 847-359-9000.
