Police, firefighters and paramedics on arrival discovered a male motorcycle rider unconscious, facedown without a pulse. The crash victim was transported to Northwest Community Hospital with extra paramedics on board the ambulance for Advanced Life Support. The motorcyclist was a male, age 18, of Wheeling, and was pronounced dead at 6:15 p.m. according to the Cook County Medical Examiners Office. The crash victim’s identity released as Jeremi Klodzinski, age 18, of Wheeling.
Although the crash was located in Cook County near the border of Buffalo Grove, Arlington Heights, and unincorporated Cook County, the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team is assisting the Buffalo Grove Police Department responsible for the crash investigation in the jurisdiction of the Village of Buffalo Grove. Buffalo Grove is located in both Cook County and Lake County, and many of Buffalo Grove Police Department’s cases are assisted by the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team.
After the collision, Jeremi Klodzinski was ejected and landed near the intersection of Buffalo Grove Road and Flentie Lane/University Drive, but the motorcycle continued north on Buffalo Grove Road about 450 feet past Darryl Drive in Buffalo Grove near unincorporated Cook County.
A witness, who is a neighbor near the crash scene, said immediately before the crash the motorcyclist was traveling at a “recklessly high speed” northbound on Buffalo Grove Road, and then crashed into a red pickup truck. The motorcyclist was ejected on Buffalo Grove Road near the intersection with Flentie Lane and University Drive. The male adult driver of the pickup truck pulled over to westbound Flentie Lane just west of Buffalo Grove. Visible damage to the pickup truck appeared to be minor at the front end of the red pickup truck.
Another neighbor near the crash scene said motorcyclists and car drivers are always “racing fast” up and down Buffalo Grove Road and on Windsor Drive in Arlington Heights.
During EMS rescue operations and an extended crash investigation, Buffalo Grove Road was closed in both directions between Nino’s Pizzeria and Downing Road.
Buffalo Grove Road is a four-lane main arterial roadway with a left turn lane (fifth lane) to eastbound University Drive and a left turn lane (fifth lane) to westbound Flentie Lane.
