Tornado Watch Issued for 44 Counties in Illinois, But Doesn’t Include Cook County Yet

A rapid-moving line of thunderstorms is developing from just north of Tulsa, Oklahoma to Madison, Wisconsin and along the Mississippi River at about 12:45 p.m. Monday. So far no Tornado Watch is issued for Cook County, but Tornado Watch #744 was issued at 11:25 a.m. CST, and is in effect until 6:00 p.m. for 44 counties including nearby DeKalb, McHenry, Kane and Grundy counties.

Storms are expected to start to affect western regions of our forecast area about 4:00 p.m. Monday. Cook County could be the subject of severe weather alerts later in the day. The severe weather outlook for Arlington Heights does include the development of scattered severe thunderstorms, isolated tornadoes, hail up to one inch in diameter, cloud-to-ground lightning, wind gusts to 60 mph with moderate rainfall and downpours.

A small craft advisory is in effect from 3 p.m. this afternoon until Tuesday afternoon. Winds of 34 mph are expected in the entire area ahead of the storms, and then during the storms.
