Hoffman Estates Police Officer Cuts Seat Belt, Rescues Woman from Sinking Car in Retention Pond at NOW Arena

Rescue scene after a Hoffman Estates police officer rescued an unresponsive female driver from a sinking vehicle in a retention pond at NOW Arena, Wednesday evening, March11, 2026 (CapturedNews).

Police, firefighters and paramedics from Hoffman Estates responded about 4:58 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2026 to a report of a vehicle in a retention pond just south of the south parking lot at NOW Arena, 5333 Prairie Stone Parkway in Hoffman Estates. Police officers were first on the scene, and discovered a vehicle sinking in the pond with an unresponsive female driver inside the vehicle. A male passenger was already out of the water.




A Hoffman Estates police officer was able to access the driver’s compartment of the vehicle, and cut here seat belt, so she could be freed from the sinking vehicle. Additional police officers helped bring the unresponsive driver to shore. The police officers administered CPR and life-saving care that continued with the addition of Advanced Life Support from paramedics of the Hoffman Estates Fire Department.

The man and woman were transported in separate ambulances to Ascension St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates. The Hoffman Estates Police Department described each of their conditions as “stable.”
