DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Villa Park Chief of Police Todd Kubish announced Wednesday, Christmas Eve, December 24, 2025 that Judge Joshua Dieden has granted the State’s motion to detain pre-trial a Chicago woman accused of leading police on a high-speed chase after stealing approximately $1,472 worth of merchandise from the Villa Park Burlington. Deondra McReynolds, age 23, of the 7700 block of S. Maryland Avenue, appeared at First Appearance Court yesterday morning charged with one count of Burglary (Class 2 Felony), one count of Retail Theft (Class 3 Felony) and two counts of Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding a Police Officer (Class 4 Felony). McReynolds’ co-defendants, Heaven E. Cannon-Triplett, age 22,of the 1100 block of W. Cermak Road, Broadview, Fontazia A. Rodriguez, age 30, of the 5300 block of W. Van Buren Street, Chicago and Tandalaya Z. Pettis, age 26, of the 5400 block of VanBuren Street, Chicago have each been charged with one count of Burglary (Class 2 Felony) and one count of Retail Theft (Class 3 Felony). None of McReynolds’ co-defendants were detained pre-trial.
On Tuesday, December 22, 2025, at approximately 11:53 a.m., the Villa Park Police Department was contacted by the loss prevention officer at the Burlington store, located at 174 Roosevelt Road, regarding a potential retail theft. Upon their arrival, Villa Park police officers observed the suspect’s vehicle, a red Nissan, turning out of the parking lot onto Roosevelt Road. After the officer stopped the Nissan, and approached the car on foot, the driver of the Nissan, later identified as McReynolds, fled westbound on Roosevelt Road at a high rate of speed. As McReynolds fled, she ignored multiple stop signs, twice drove into oncoming traffic to avoid slower moving vehicles and ultimately reached speeds of approximately 113 m.p.h. on Roosevelt Road before entering eastbound I-290, at which time the officer terminated pursuit out of safety concerns. Authorities with the Oak Brook Police Department and the Chicago Police Helicopter Unit ultimately located the Nissan in an alley in Chicago where they observed the four defendants allegedly retrieving bags of merchandise from the car. Following a brief foot chase, all four defendants were taken into custody. Following an investigation into the matter, it is alleged that all four defendants entered the Burlington, selected items of clothing with an approximate value of $1,472, and exited the store without paying for the merchandise.
“The allegations that Ms. McReynolds sped down Roosevelt Road, one of the busiest roads in the County, in the middle of the afternoon during the busy holiday shopping season at approximately 100 m.p.h. are outrageous. Ms. McReynolds’ alleged actions endangered not only her life and the lives of her passengers, but also the lives of the officers involved and countless innocent motorists and pedestrians. We are all very grateful that no one was injured, or worse, in this incident. The safe apprehension of the defendant in this case once again sends a crystal-clear message that in DuPage County if you flee from the police, we will use every resource available to us, including the use of a helicopter and assistance from neighboring agencies, as in this case, to ensure you are arrested, charged and prosecuted. I thank the Villa Park Police Department for their work on this case and for their continuing efforts in keeping our roadways and retail establishments safe as well as the Oak Brook Police Department for their assistance. I also thank the Chicago Police Department for air support as well as Assistant State’s Attorneys Sean Kinsella and Kevin Kosman for their work in securing charges against these defendants.”

The next court appearance for all of the defendants is scheduled for January 20, 2026, in front of Judge Brian Telander. Court record information is pending. Initially detained, Deondra McReynolds is not detained at DuPage County Jail on Sunday, January 25, 2026.
