Morton Grove Man Shot by Vehicle Burglars While Defending His Property on Palma Lane Near Golf Rd and Harlem Ave

Morton Grove police officers responded about 2:44 a.m., Sunday, January 25, 2026 to a report of shots fired related to a motor vehicle burglary in the block of 7300 block of Palma Lane in Morton Grove.

Morton Grove Police officers responded with Niles Police officers, and quickly confirmed the area was secure. The police officers on arrival confirmed that one victim had been shot. Morton Grove Fire Department paramedics were assigned to the scene. Before Morton Grove Fire Department paramedics arrived, police officers provided lifesaving interventions to the victim, including the application of a tourniquet. The Morton Grove Fire Department arrived and continued medical care, and transported the male adult shooting victim to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. The victim was listed in stable condition at the hospital, according to the Morton Grove Police Department.




The initial investigation determined that two male black offenders were attempting to break into a vehicle parked on Palma Lane. According to the Morton Grove Police Department, the homeowner observed the offenders breaking into his vehicle and attempted to confront them. At that time, the offenders battered the victim and discharged a firearm, striking him in the leg, before fleeing the scene. A witness reported the offenders were observed leaving the neighborhood in a dark colored sedan. Suspect and vehicle information was promptly shared with regional law enforcement partners, according to the Morton Grove Police Department.

The Morton Grove Police Department is pursuing multiple investigative leads and continues to actively investigate this incident.
