A San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy was shot and killed by a suspect in Rancho Cucamonga who fled on California freeways, and reach speeds in excess of 170 MPH estimated by a SKY FOX news helicopter that was following a police pursuit overhead.
Law enforcement deputies responded Monday afternoon, October 27, 2025 to a report of domestic violence when San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy Andrew Nunez was shot. Several deputies were on the scene when the shooting occurred, and the suspect fled from the scene in a motorcycle about 1:30 p.m. PT while law enforcement officers were on the scene.
Operating a motorcycle, the suspect was often traveling at speeds between 100 MPH and 172 MPH on the 210 Freeway and occasionally drove in the wrong direction into oncoming traffic during the pursuit.
The suspect was driving on the median shoulder of the 210 Freeway when the driver of a silver sedan veered slowly across a yellow line into the median shoulder. The suspect, who was adjusting a black backpack and driving the motorcycle no-handed at about 70 MPH crashed into the driver’s side of the silver sedan at an oblique angle. After the crash, the motorcyclist landed on the pavement and his motorcycle bounced on top of him.
The crash occurred on the 210 Freeway at Campus Avenue. According to LiveNOW from FOX, the sedan involved in the crash with the motorcycle was driven by a law enforcement officer.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment — condition unknown. The suspect was seen sitting up wearing neck brace applied by paramedics, who were kept secure by law enforcement authorities surrounding the inner scene.
The was transferred on a gurney to a medical helicopter, and airlifted to a hospital.
As of 4:43 p.m. PT Monday, October 27, 2025, the identity of the suspect was not disclosed.
