The Palatine Police Department released Monday afternoon, October 27, 2025, information about an incident involving federal agents taking a person into custody earlier today at a location on a retail and restaurant stretch of Dundee Road between Rand Road and Baldwin Road in Palatine.

According to the Palatine Police Department, on Monday, October 27, 2025, at approximately 11:50 a.m., Palatine Police officers responded to the block of 1100 East Dundee Road for a report of a disturbance. According to initial information, three individuals wearing police insignia were attempting to arrest a customer at a business location that was not disclosed.

Upon arrival, Palatine officers were able to determine the three individuals were federal agents attempting to take a subject into custody. During the incident, a crowd of approximately 20 people had gathered, with several individuals shouting obscenities and moving toward the arresting agents.

A Palatine Police officer positioned himself between the agents and the crowd to ensure the safety of everyone involved and to maintain order at the scene. The police officer observed the federal agents continuing to struggle with the subject. Given the subject’s noncompliance, the agitated crowd, and the potential risk of injury, the officer made a split-second decision to assist in stabilizing the situation, according to the Palatine Police Department. The Palatine police officer provided verbal instructions in Spanish to the subject and grasped the subject’s right arm, which was already being handcuffed, while agents secured the left arm helping to bring the incident to a safe and peaceful resolution.

“The Palatine Police Department remains committed to complying with all state laws, and will continue to focus on building strong relationships with the community. The police department’s priority is to address criminal activity and ensure the safety of all residents. The police department is here to serve and protect all members of our community equally. Residents should feel safe reporting crimes without fear of immigration repercussions. By adhering to these principles, the police department demonstrates our commitment to fair and unbiased policing.”
