A motorcyclist died after crashing into a BMW sedan during rush hour Thursday evening in Buffalo Grove on Arlington Heights Road south of Lake Cook Road near James F. Cooper Middle School. The scene aftermath indicated the motorcyclist was traveling at an excessively high speed. The motorcycle was down on its side approximately 300 feet north of the point of impact in the intersection of Arlington Heights Road and Plum Grove Circle in Buffalo Grove near the border of Arlington Heights in Cook County.
The identity of the motorcyclist was released as Rane Pyter, age 24, of Schaumburg, according to the Cook County Medical Examiners Office. The driver of the car involved in the crash did not initially report any injuries, stayed at the crash scene, and was cooperating with the police investigation.
Police, firefighters and paramedics from Buffalo Grove and Arlington Heights responded about 5:33 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2025 to a report of a motorcycle crash with a car in the intersection of Arlington Heights Road and Plum Grove Circle in Buffalo Grove near the border with Arlington Heights.
Police, firefighters, and paramedics on arrival discovered a motorcyclist unconscious and not breathing. Paramedics transported the motorcyclist with life-threatening injuries to Endeavor Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. The condition of the motorcyclist was not initially confirmed by authorities. Rane Pyter was pronounced dead at 6:01 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2025.
The driver of the BMW sedan was apparently attempting to pull out onto Arlington Heights Road when the motorcyclist traveling at a high rate of speed hit the BMW near the left rear wheel. A witness reported the motorcyclist was driving recklessly northbound on Arlington Heights Road — possibly driving with quick lanes changes and lane splitting.

A witness reported that a police officer performed CPR for a short time before paramedics arrived.
Buffalo Grove Police Department and Lake County MCAT are investigating the crash. The motorcycle was located on its side on Arlington Heights Road about 300 feet north of the impact point in the intersection of Arlington Heights Road and Plum Grove Circle.

Arlington Heights Road was blocked in both directions between Whitehall Drive and Nichols Road during rescue and crash investigation. Arlington Heights Road was also blocked for an extended period for the crash investigation. Plum Grove Circle was also blocked in both directions on both sides of Arlington Heights Road.
