Lake County Sheriff’s detectives investigated several leads in connection with a recent armed robbery at a fast food restaurant in Beach Park, and identified the suspect as Shane L. Lones, 41, of the 1800 block of Jethro Avenue, Zion. Lones was arrested on Friday afternoon — one day after he allegedly robbed the fast food restaurant.

Following the robbery, sheriff’s detectives reviewed area surveillance footage, which showed Lones entering a vehicle. Utilizing Flock cameras in the area, detectives obtained additional information about the vehicle, including its license plate.

On Friday afternoon, Zion Police Officers located Lones in a vehicle near his residence and took him into custody.

Lake County Sheriff’s detectives obtained and executed search warrants for Lones’ vehicle and apartment. During the searches, they recovered the clothing Lones wore during the armed robbery in Beach Park.

After reviewing the facts and circumstances of the case, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved one count of Armed Robbery (Class X Felony) against Lones.

The State’s Attorney’s Office filed a petition to detain Lones while awaiting trial. On Saturday, a judge ordered Lones to be held pending a detention hearing, which is scheduled for tomorrow, May 27.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office thanks the Zion Police Department for their assistance, as well as members of the community who provided tips.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives are investigating an armed robbery that occurred Thursday evening at a fast food restaurant in Beach Park.

Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded about 7:35 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2025 to a fast-food restaurant in the 38900 block of North Lewis Road, Beach Park, for an armed robbery. Lake County Sheriff’s deputies arrived and spoke to the two victim employees of the restaurant, who initially reported they were not injured.

A preliminary investigation indicated that a light-skinned man, possibly in his late 20s to mid-30s entered the store wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, black shoes, and a surgical mask to cover his face. While in the store, he produced a knife and demanded money. After stealing money from the cash register, he fled on foot.

A Lake County Sheriff’s K-9 unit responded and conducted a track, which ended nearby, in a parking lot to the east of the restaurant, indicating the man likely entered a vehicle.

Sheriff’s detectives continue to investigate. Anyone with any information is encouraged to make a tip to sheriff’s detectives at www.lakecountyil.gov/sheriff or Lake County CrimeStoppers at http://www.lakecountycrimestoppers.org/
