Mount Prospect Police Detectives on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, charged Juan Pio Toto, age 26, of the block of 1400 South Brownstone Court, with one felony count of First-Degree Murder. The murder charge stems from the investigation into the death of Atalia Pucheta Martinez, whose body was found in the Busse Woods Forest Preserve on Saturday, November 9, 2024. Pio Toto was charged with concealment of a death on November 11, 2024. Additional charges were pending along with the results of the official ruling from the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office on the cause and manner of Pucheta Martinez’s death.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Pucheta Martinez’s manner of death as homicide. The homicide ruling and additional evidence recovered by Mount Prospect Police Detectives during the investigation resulted in the Cook County State’s Attorney Office approving one count of First-Degree Murder against Pio Toto.
Juan Pio Toto was taken to a detention hearing on March 5, 2025, where he was ordered detained until his next court date of March 24, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. in room 110 at the 3rd District Court of Cook County in Rolling Meadows.
The public is reminded that criminal charges are not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
