An unidentified individual is dead after a single-vehicle crash in Bull Valley between Woodstock and McHenry in Dorr Township on Monday evening.
McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Woodstock Fire & Rescue responded at 4:49 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2025 to a single vehicle crash in the block of 8200 Mason Hill Road in unincorporated Woodstock.
First responders arrived to find a vehicle crash into a tree on the northwest side of a curve on Mason Hill Road. The car was fully engulfed in flames. Later, as firefighters and paramedics worked to extinguish the fire, they discovered that a sole individual was still inside the vehicle.
The victim, believed to be a male, was pronounced dead at the scene, but initially was not positively identified. The driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Preliminary investigation of the crash indicates the driver of a 2019 Chrysler 300 was traveling westbound on Mason Hill Road, west of Cherry Valley Road. The driver of the vehicle failed to negotiate a left-hand curve and exited the roadway to the right, striking a tree. The vehicle then caught fire.
Speed is believed to be a factor of the crash. The Speed Limit is 45 MPH on Mason Hill Road, but a Curve Sign combined with a 25 MPH Sign exists for westbound motorists approaching the left-hand curve. Mason Hill Road is two-lane highway (one lane in each direction) with a double yellow line and a very small shoulder in the area of the crash scene.
The crash is under investigation by McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
