Police, firefighters and paramedics from Mount Prospect responded about 6:36 p.m. Monday, March 17, 2025 to a report of a crash with injuries at Wolf Road and Thayer Street in Mount Prospect near the border with Des Plaines.
Police, firefighters and paramedics arrived to find a white Mercedes C300 sedan with severe front-end damage in the intersection, and a silver, possibly Chrysler PT Cruiser off the roadway, crashed into a fence on the east parkway of Wolf Road.
The driver of the silver vehicle that was crashed into the fence required extrication, and was found unresponsive and not breathing. The driver, a male age 83 of Mount Prospect, was transported by Mount Prospect Fire Department paramedics, where he was pronounced dead at Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
The driver of the white Mercedes sedan refused medical transport.
Crash reconstruction investigators with MCAT-STAR were assigned to assist the Mount Prospect Police Department with a prolonged investigation involving measurements, collection of evidence, photography, and drone photography of the crash scene.
According to the Mount Prospect Police Department, all lanes of Wolf Road between Feehanville Drive and Central Road were closed for the crash investigation. All lanes of Wolf Road were opened at approximately 12:15 a.m.
According to the Cook County Medical Examiners Office, the male driver from Mount Prospect was pronounced dead at 7:10 p.m., and the incident city was listed as Des Plaines, probably because Des Plaines is located on the east side of Wolf Road.
The Wolf Road Speed Limit is 40 MPH at Thayer Street. Wolf Road is a 4-lane roadway (two lanes in each direction). Thayer Street is a residential side street.
There is a left turn lane for northbound Wolf Road to Thayer Street, and there is a painted paved median as wide as the left turn lane north of the intersection.
