Two Public Works Employees in Waukegan Injured by Electric Energy During Tree Trimming Operation

Two public works employees suffered an electric shock and at least one suffered burns when their truck contacted a power line while the crew was working on tree-trimming operations near Pershing Road and Greenwood Avenue in Waukegan Thursday morning.




The Waukegan Fire Department arrived responded about 11:30 a.m. Thursday, January 9, 2025 and arrived to discover two workers with injuries related to electric energy.

A truck with a crane boom, which contacted an energized power line, injured the workers.

Fellow crew members on the scene called 911 and administered first aid until Waukegan Fire Department paramedics arrived on the scene.




One injured worker was transferred to Waukegan National Airport and then transported by helicopter to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. The other worker was transported by ambulance to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyvillek. The conditions of the workers were not initially released.

ComEd crews arrived on the scene to secure the their property and to ensure the area was safe.
