The pilot of a single-engine Cessna aircraft crashed while on a taxi route — a non-flight incident — at Dacy Airport in Harvard.
McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies and Harvard Fire Protection District firefighters and paramedics responded to a report of an airplane crash with a fuel leak at Dacy Airport, 22211 Airport Road in Harvard.
Firefighters on arrival discovered a small single-engine airplane nose down and leaking fuel on the backside of a hangar at the rear of the property. Portions of the hangar, especially the corner of the building, sustained damage from the collision.
The pilot, who had exited the aircraft before fire crews arrived, reported no injuries.
Firefighters secured the scene and helped to right the plane to prevent further fuel leakage.
The crash is under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
