Whole Foods is opening new small-format stores aimed at serving quick-trip urban consumers. Called Whole Foods Market Daily Shop, stores will range between 7,000 to 14,000 square feet, a fraction of Whole Foods stores, which average about 40,000 square feet. Whole Foods Market announced Monday, March 4, 2024 the introduction of a new, quick-shop store format beginning in New York City and designed to provide customers in urban neighborhoods with a quick, convenient shopping experience with easier access to Whole Foods Market’s fresh, high-quality offerings.




The new format will be known as Whole Foods Market Daily Shop, and the store size will range from 7,000 to 14,000 square feet. Whole Foods Market plans to add the smaller format to other cities across the country, but apparently in city urban dense areas — not the suburbs.

The first store, which will launch on the Upper East Side in Manhattan (1175 Third Avenue) with additional locations in New York City to be announced, will be the first Whole Foods Market locatoin offer Juice & Java, a venue for coffee, tea, fresh pressed juices, smoothies, sandwiches, soups and various desserts.

grab-and-go meals and snacks,

weekly essentials,

quick ingredients to complete a meal

fresh, seasonal produce,

meat and seafood,

prepared sandwiches and pre-packed meals,

breads,

alcohol, and

supplements.

The selection available in the smaller stores will also include a handpicked range of local specialties of the 365 by Whole Foods Market brand.

The new format stores are not replacement for the larger traditional Whole Foods Market store format. In fact, this quick-shop format is one more way Whole Foods Market and Amazon are innovating every day to build a best-in-class grocery shopping experience that offers multiple ways for customers to conveniently shop for the products they know and love.

In 2023, there were a total of 17 of the larger format Whole Foods Market in New York City.

Whole Foods Market currently has more than 530 stores in the U.S., U.K. and Canada with more than 75 stores planned.
