Suspects Arrested, Accused of Robberies in Their Neighborhood Near Hassell Rd, Hoffman Estates

The Hoffman Estates Police Department announced today, Monday, February 19, 2024, that two suspects were arrested on Friday, February 16, 2024, accused of attempting an armed robbery (in progress) on Friday, February 16, 2024; and at least one of the suspects was accused of committing an armed robbery on Valentine’s Day, Wednesday, February 14, 2024.

The Hoffman Estates Police Department on Friday, February 16, 2024, arrested two subjects for a Class 1 Attempted Armed Robbery that occurred on February 16, 2024. One of the suspects was arrested for Class X Felony Armed Robbery, which had occurred on February 14, 2024.




Hoffman Estates police officers were dispatched about 4:47 p.m. on Friday, February 16, 2024 to the block of 2300 Hassell Road for a report of suspicious subjects.

The location was the same location as the armed robbery which had occurred on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2024, according to the Hoffman Estates Police Department.

While checking the area in the 1900 block of Governors Lane, a police officer observed two male subjects matching the description provided by witnesses. The male subjects appeared to be in the commission of an armed robbery of a victim at that location. The police officer was able to take one of the subjects into custody at the location, while the second subject fled the area on foot. The second subject was later taken into custody after a foot pursuit by police officers. Two firearms were recovered in this incident — a .22 Luger handgun and an unnamed 9mm handgun, according to the Hoffman Estates Police Department.

The subjects have been identified as Semaj Bryant, a male black, age 20, and Devin Loving, male/black, age 18. Both suspects reside in the block of 1900 Haddam Place.

Both Subjects were charged with one count of a Class 1 Felony Attempted Armed Robbery (HEP24-000763).

Additionally, Devin Loving was charged with a Class X Felony Armed Robbery for the February 14, 2024, incident (HEP24-000720). Additional gun charges on both subjects are pending.

At the initial hearing, both subjects were ordered held without bond. Semaj Bryant is held in Cook County Jail DIV08-3D-D3-18. Devin Loving is held in Cook County Jail DIV5-2L-17-1.

Their next hearing date is scheduled for February 21, 2024 at Cook County Circuit Court in Rolling Meadows.

Hoffman Estates police officers responded about 10:51 a.m. Wednesday, February 14, 2024 to a report of an armed robbery in the block of 2300 Hassel Road in Hoffman Estates.

Police received a report that a masked man armed with a gun took a victim’s purse near the property of the strip mall just west of Barrington Lakes Apartments property.

The offender was last seen running east from the scene toward Barrington Lakes Apartments.




Six schools in Hoffman Estates were placed on lockdown beginning late Wednesday morning during a BOLO (Be On the Look Out) operation as police searched for the armed suspect wanted for investigation of an armed robbery.

Hoffman Estates High School was placed on soft lockdown, which was lifted later on Wednesday

Schaumburg Township Elementary District 54 also sent out an alert to its school communities at Eisenhower, MacArthur, Muir, Churchill and Lincoln Prairie schools that the schools were kept secure during the police search.




The robbery is under investigation, and initially no arrests were made, according to the Hoffman Estates Police Department.
