A crash, explosion, and loss of two lives near Rainbow Bridge, but no sign of terrorism at this time, said Governor Kathy Hochul at a press conference about 5:00 p.m. ET, Wednesday, November 22, 2023.

A western New York resident was likely in the vicinity at the time the vehicle was involved in the crash and explosion incident, according to Gov. Hochul. At the Wednesday evening press conference, Gov. Hochul did not specifically describe the western New York resident as the driver of the vehicle.

A Customs and Border employee that was reported injured at the scene of the explosion was treated and released from the hospital. Only one employee was affected.
