O’Hare International Airport is undergoing a decade-long transformation … see ord21.com and there is construction ongoing just north of Terminal 5 near the crash scene location.

O’Hare International Airport Terminal 5 and Concourse M is the only international terminal serving the airport. However, a new O’Hare Global Terminal that integrates domestic and international flights was scheduled to begin construction in 2023 and open in December 2028. The O’Hare Global Terminal will be located in place of Terminal 2. Two future satellite terminals — SC1 and SC2 — will be built to the west of Terminal 2 with the capacity of Terminal 2 before it is closed, and will serve travelers during the construction of the O’Hare Global Terminal.
