Suspect Killed by Police, K-9 Killed in Shootout Near Fabyan Pkwy and Randall Rd Geneva

A suspected carjacker is dead after a shootout with Kane County Sheriff’s deputies near the intersection of Fabyan Parkway and Randall Road in Geneva that occurred just before 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2023. A police K-9 was also killed during the shootout.

A vehicle with the suspect was located with a License Plate Reader, and a pursuit began on Randall Road near Silver Glen in South Elgin, according to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office. The suspect was pursued in a vehicle chase south on Randall Road for about seven miles to the intersection of Randall Road and Fabyan Parkway. The offender exited the vehicle and presented a handgun as K-9 Hudson was deployed at the intersection of Randall Road and Fabyan Parkway. There was a struggle, and Kane County Sheriff’s Deputies returned fire at the suspect.

K-9 Hudson was struck and killed. The suspect was also shot and killed.

K-9 Hudson was a Dutch Shepherd and worked as a narcotics detection K-9.




Three deputies, who did not initially report injuries, were transported to the hospital per procedure in police-involved shootings.

The deceased suspect had been on a “crime spree” for about 48 hours prior to the vehicle pursuit, according to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office.

An armored Bearcat vehicle was on the scene immediately after shootout.
