Five People Shot, Two Killed on 78th St Near Exchange Ave Chicago

Police, firefighters and paramedics from Chicago responded just before 2:00 p.m. to a report of shots fired and multiple people shot in the block of 2900 East 78th Street.

One gunshot victim walked about three-quarters of a mile from the shooting scene to a McDonald’s at 79th Street and Yates. Two of the victims were transported to hospitals where they were pronounced dead, and three victims are listed in critical condition.

Chicago police say that five victims were inside an apartment in the block of 2900 East 78th Street when an unknown offender or offenders (likely two teens wearing skis with one wearing camouflage style clothing) entered the apartment by kicking in a door in what appears to be a home invasion. One or both offenders shot the victims. One of the victims was able to flee the apartment, and make itsds to the McDonald’s. That victim was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center University of Chicago hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. The other four victims remained inside the apartment where two of the victims were pronounced on scene and two victims were transported to Level 1 Trauma Center University of Chicago, where they were listed in critical condition. Chicago police detectives are investigating the homicide case, and no one is in custody, according to the Chicago Police Department.

The shooting scene is just west of US-41 (South Lake Shore Drive) near Rainbow Beach Park, and less than 2 miles north of the Chicago Skyway.
