Queen Elizabeth II has died at age 96 on Thursday, September 8, 2022 just before 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time at her summer home Balmoral Castle in Scotland. Queen Elizabeth was the longest serving British monarch with a 70-year reign that spanned 13 U.S. presidents. Her eldest son and heir, Charles, is now king. Prince William is no heir to the throne.

Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor is survived by King Charles and her other children, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward, and their spouses. Prince William, heir to the throne after King Charles, and Prince Harry are among her eight grandchildren. She has a dozen great-grandchildren.




Queen Elizabeth II, born in 1926, was not expected to be queen. Her father was the second son of King George V. She was the oldest child of Prince Albert, the Duke of York, and the Scottish aristocrat Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, the Duchess of York. However, when her uncle (her father’s brother), King Edward VIII, abdicated in 1936 so he could marry the American socialite and divorcee Wallis Simpson, her father Albert Frederick Arthur George, became King George VI, and Elizabeth became heir to the throne.

At the age of 13, Elizabeth met Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark (later Philip Mountbatten), her third cousin serving as a Naval officer. They began exchanging letters and years later were engaged.




At the outbreak of World War II, her parents stayed in London, even during dangerous German “Blitz” bombing that hit Buckingham Palace. In September 1939, the British Empire and most Commonwealth countries — but not Ireland — declared war on Nazi Germany. War. Next the Kingdom of Italy and the Empire of Japan were at war with England in 1940 and 1941, respectively. George VI was perceived as living the hardships of the common people which caused his popularity to climb. Elizabeth and her younger sister, Princess Margaret, were among the 3 million people evacuated out of cities at risk of German bombing.

England, the United States, and allies won World War II in 1945, but Ireland was splitting away from the British Empire. Also, India and Pakistan gained independence from the British Empire in 1947. King George VI’s health declined in a conditions related to smoking, and he died of a coronary thrombosis in 1952.

King George VI’s eldest daughter, Elizabeth II, then took the throne in 1952. Her Coronation was in 1953.




Elizabeth II survived many heartbreaks, including the split of Charles and his then-wife, Princess Diana, who later died in a car crash in Paris, other divorces in the family, a devastating fire at Windsor Castle, the departure of from the Royal Family by Harry and wife Meghan, the scandal of Prince Andrew’s friendship with the late financier and pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, and a lawsuit serving him with sexual abuse of a female during the Epstein debauchery era.

The United Kingdom enters into mourning for a period of at least 10 days. With a codename “London Bridge” by Buckingham Palace, the government and law enforcement have planned and prepared for the period of mourning for several years.

Large crowds were beginning to gather immediately Thursday, September 8, 2022 to pay their respects as she will lie in state in Parliament. World leaders will begin arriving in the United Kingdom to pay their tributes before the queen’s state funeral at Westminster Abbey. Queen Elizabeth will be buried in the English County of Berkshire at Windsor Castle, the home of Britain’s kings and queens for more than 1,000 years. Windsor Castle has been the main residence of Queen Elizabeth II since 2011.
