License plate reader technology that was installed only one month ago is credited with finding the suspect in a homicide in Morris, Illinois in Grundy County.
Police, firefighters and paramedics from Morris responded about 4:26 p.m. Thursday, August 4, 2022 to a report of shots fired in a hallway at an apartment building in the block of 500 Twilight Drive in Morris.
Police on arrival reported one female down with a gunshot wound in the hallway of the apartment building. Police declared the scene was secure and EMS was moved up for patient contact.
The female was identified as Beverly A. Lambert, age 25, of Shorewood. She was transported to Morris Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 6:55 p.m.
Police assigned an active shooter response with Grundy County Sheriff’s Office and SWAT personnel assigned to the scene.
Using Flock Safety License Plate Reader technology, police were able to track the homicide suspect from the point he left the apartment complex on Twilight Drive. Cameras at several intersection tracked the suspect.
According to the Morris Police Department, at approximately 11:00 p.m., a 16 year-old male was arrested for First Degree Murder in connection with the incident on Twilight Drive. The suspect was captured in the Joliet area.
There was a report that a male/black teen was asking for a ride in the area. Police did not initially confirm whether the shooter knew the victim, but the shooter stole the victim’s vehicle.
The shooting victim has a 2 year-old son.
