Police, firefighters and paramedics from North Chicago responded about 1:25 p.m. Monday, May 2, 2022 to a report of shots fired in the block of 1000 Jackson Street. North Chicago Police Officers arrived and located a victim, a 49-year-old man of the 1000 block of Jackson Street, critically injured. The man was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Preliminary investigation shows the victim was mowing his lawn when an offender in a vehicle drove by on Jackson Street. An occupant of the vehicle started shooting at the man and then fled from the scene in the vehicle. According to the Lake County Major Crime Task Force, the shooting was an apparent targeted shooting of the victim.
Due to the nature of the incident, the North Chicago Police Department requested the assistance of the Lake County Major Crime Task Force. North Chicago Police Detectives and Task Force Investigators are actively investigating the homicide.
