Investigation After Off-Duty Waukegan Police Officer Shoots and Kills Her Husband

Police, firefighters and paramedics from Waukegan responded to a shooting about 8:00 p.m. Sunday, May 1, 2022 in the block of 2000 North Avenue in Waukegan. Upon arrival, police located a male shooting victim and a woman who was with the male victim.

The male shooting victim, in his 30s was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries, according to the Waukegan Police Department.

The woman at the shooting scene placed the call regarding the shooting, and was identified as a veteran police officer of 19 years with the Waukegan Police Department, and the wife of the shooting victim. She was discovered at the scene with visible injuries, and was also transported to an area hospital.

The weapon used in the shooting is the officer’s service pistol issued by the Waukegan Police Department. The police officer’s name was not initially released, pending investigation of the fatal shooting — a possible domestic incident.

A Lake County Coroner’s Office autopsy was scheduled for today, Monday, May 2, 2022.
