Police and firefighter/paramedics from Mount Prospect responded about 10:04 a.m. Friday, February 19, 2021 to a report of a fire in an external trash chute at an apartment construction project in the block of 200 East Prospect Avenue. The actual address was 207 South Maple Street in Mount Prospect.
Initially there was a report that construction workers might have been trapped on an upper floor. The fire department response was upgraded to a Working Fire Response (Code 4) by 10:09 a.m.
The fire was located on the east side of the 7-story building.
All workers were accounted for by 10:24 a.m.
Engine 14’s crew was prepared to charged the building’s water system in case fire extended into the building from the exterior trash chute. Prospect Heights Engine 9’s crew and/or Des Plaines Squad 63’s crew each brought a hotel pack (hose pack) into the building to standby to connect to the building’s fire suppression water system.
Fire loss was declared stopped by 10:52 a.m. Initially no injuries were reported.
Apparently there was some damage to the building because overhaul was necessary on the roof and at least the 4th floor. The fire singed or charred installed building materials on the 3rd through 7th floor and roof.
The apartment project is described by the developer as a mixed-use transit oriented development on a previously vacant six-acre site in the heart of Downtown Mount Prospect, Illinois. The proposed Planned Unit Development is 15,000 SF for retail/restaurant/entertainment use and confirmed tenant Angels Caputo’s Fresh Market expects a spring 2021 move in. The developer states the independent grocery experience is a perfect fit for the mix of 257 luxury apartments and 56 single-family attached rowhomes. It will also include 268 structured parking spaces reserved for commuters.
Offering studio, one, and two-bedroom apartment homes, these brand-new apartment homes will be finished with stainless steel appliances, quartz countertops, white subway tile backsplashes, and plank flooring in the main living area.
Amenities include a fitness center, yoga studio, resident lounge, demonstration kitchen, bike storage and repair room, outdoor grilling hub, swimming pool, sundeck, bark park, and package receiving room equipped with Luxer One technology (automated security lockers).
