Police, firefighters, and paramedics from Chicago responded about 7:37 a.m. Thursday, February 18, 2020 to a report of an apartment fire in the block of 9200 South Loomis Street, Chicago.
Battalion Chief 21 reported a 2 1/2-story ordinary about 50×75 square feet with heavy fire at the rear of the structure. Engine 121’s crew was first on the scene at the front of the building and reported the fire appeared to be on the second floor of a 2 1/2-story ordinary structure. Truck 45’s crew was at the front of the 2-unit side-by-side flat-roof brick apartment building and reported the fire was at the rear of the building. Primary searches were started from the front of the building by 7:44 p.m., while Engine 73’s crew pulled around to a back alley and used their deck gun on the rear of the apartment house.
Battalion Chief 21 reported the majority of the fire in the back of the building was knocked down by 7:46 p.m. Several people were able to evacuate out the front of the building, but one man in cardiac arrest was removed from the building by firefighters, and was immediately treated by paramedics by about 7:50 p.m.
