WRONG-WAY Driver Was Headed for Boulevard Planter Impact on Cicero Avenue Before Head-on Crash

One person is dead and four others were seriously injured in a crash in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood (CBS Chicago). YouTube Tips ⓘ

Police and firefighters and paramedics from Chicago responded about 9:30 pm. Wednesday, January 20, 2021 to a report of a serious head-on crash. On arrival first responders discovered a three-vehicle crash with two of the vehicles involved in a head-on impact.

An EMS Plan 1 was activated by about 9:39 p.m. on orders of CFD Ambulance 21’s crew. Tower 54 requested a pin-in response for multiple people trapped in a vehicle. Squad 5 was assigned, but was returned during their response by about 9:52 a.m. when all patients were extricated at the scene. All patients were categorized Code Red.




A girl, age 13, was found in a Cadillac Escalade with life-threatening injures and suffering traumatic cardiac arrest. She was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where she was pronounced dead about an hour after the crash.

A 25-year-old man was treated for a dislocated hip and was transported to Level 1 Trauma Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.

A 21-year-old woman sustained severe injuries to her abdomen and was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition.

A 19-year-old woman sustained injuries to the face and was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocated Christ Medical Center where she was listed in serious condition.

A 51-year-old man sustained a fractured right ankle and was transferred to Level 1 Trauma Center Stroger Hospital.

A 40-year-old male, who was the driver of the Toyota Rav 4 not involved in the head-on impact refused medical care on scene and did not initially report any apparent injuries.




Chicago Fire Department EMS documented a total of eight involved victims, including three total medical refusals.

Ambulances staged at 50th Street and Cicero Avenue in the Dollar Store parking lot.

The EMS Plan 1 was secured by about 10:00 p.m. on orders of Chicago Fire Department Battalion 16.

Video from an Uber car dashboard shows that the driver of the dark gray Chevy Impala was northbound on Cicero Avenue with the Uber driver and passed the Uber car at 50th Street while driving into the oncoming lanes of Cicero Avenue. The driver of the Impala was headed for impact with a center median boulevard type planter with trees before he veered left and as a wrong way driver crossed all lanes of southbound Cicero Avenue. The impact occurred directly in front of Eat Clean Chicago — a healthy meal prepping and healthy meal delivery company.
