Male Offender from Grayslake Charged After Shots Fired Call Near Establishments at Old Gage Lake Rd and Main St, Gages Lake

Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded just after midnight Saturday, September 12, 2020 to a report of shots fired in the block of 18400 Old Gages Lake Road in Gages Lake.

LCSO Deputies arrived and were told by witnesses that a man had displayed a firearm while outside of the Jesse Oaks Food & Drink. The man then walked to the Firehouse Pub where two gunshots were heard in the vicinity of Old Gages Lake Road and Main Street. A description of the subject and firearm were provided to the Lake County Sheriff’s deputies.

Deputies located a man matching the description of the subject on the back deck of the Firehouse Pub. The subject ran through the Firehouse Pub, exited the front door, and continued running away from the deputies. While running away from the deputies, the subject fell. The subject was then detained by the deputies a short distance away. A magazine with ammunition was located on the subject.

A K-9 team from the Gurnee Police Department arrived on the scene to conduct an article search. A 9mm handgun was located by Gurnee K-9 ‘Bear’ where the subject had fallen.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The subject, Joe Torres, 23, of the 33000 block of Sears Blvd in Grayslake, was interviewed by members of the LCSO Criminal Investigations Division.

After reviewing the facts and circumstances of the case, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved the following charges:

– Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon (Class 4 Felony)

– Reckless Discharge of a Firearm (Class 4 Felony)

– Disorderly Conduct (Class A Misdemeanor)

– Unlawful Possession of Ammunition (Class A Misdemeanor)

– Resisting a Peace Officer (Two Counts, Class A Misdemeanor)

Joe Torres appeared in bond court and was remanded into the custody of the jail on a $15,000 bond and not allowed to return to Jesse Oaks or the Firehouse Pub.

Joe Torres was treated at the scene for a minor cut that occurred during the fall. No one else was injured in the incident.
