Aurora police and firefighter/paramedics responded Saturday morning to a report of a man down in an intersection at Stolp Avenue and West Galena Boulevard. The victim was dead at the scene and was initially assumed to be a victim of a fatal hit-and-run. The victim was located nearest the southwest corner of the intersection near the approximately 20-story Leland Tower Apartments building at 7 South Stolp Avenue. The southwest corner is south of the North Island Apartments — formerly known as the Hotel Aurora.
According to the Aurora Police Department, investigation discovered that the man was not the victim of a hit-and-run. During the investigation, video evidence showed that the male victim in this incident was not struck by a vehicle, but appears to have fallen from an apartment building at the intersection. This incident was reclassified as a death investigation.
The scene was located on Stolp Island in downtown Aurora just southwest of the Hollywood Casino Aurora.
