Deerfield police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:37 a.m. Friday September 13, 2019 to a report that a woman was struck by an auto near 813 Waukegan Road. The woman was found unresponsive in a parking lot near Deerfields Bakery — apparently the victim of a hit-and-run vehicle vs pedestrian incident.

Deerfield-Bannockburn FPD firefighter/paramedics provided Advanced Life Support medical treatment and transported the woman to Highland Park Hospital. Initially the woman’s condition at the hospital was not known, but injuries at the scene were described as life-threatening. Later Friday afternoon, Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper confirmed that 53-year-old woman died after being hit by the vehicle. Initially her identity is not being released until her family is notified.

Initially it was unknown whether anyone witnessed the incident or whether a witness provided a vehicle description. A black minivan with front-end damage was stopped near Deerfield High School, 1959 Waukegan Road, about 1.5 mile north of the scene.

During the investigation of the hit-and-run, police located a 68-year-old male driver of the vehicle at another location, according to a Deerfield Police Department news release. The driver was taken into custody, and police said the driver is cooperating with the investigation, which is ongoing.
