CBS 2’s Dave Savini investigates. YouTube Tips ⓘ

A woman with polio was busy with medical appointments, so her family moved her van for her so she didn’t get a ticket. Here’s what happened to her van, even though it had a working wheelchair lift and a handicap license plate.

1. Van unjustly labeled abandoned with a 7-day towing warning on a sticker by Chicago Streets and Sanitation.

2. City contractor, United Road Towing, towed the vehicle, pounded it for 2 weeks, and bought the van from the City of Chicago for $15.

3. United Road Towing got a junk title on the van and sold it at auction for $615 to a scrap yard that crushed the van to scrap metal.

No police enforcement is involved in these types of cases.
