San Francisco Undercover Cops Catch a Bike Thief in the Act; The Sting and Bike Theft Background

Part 2: THE STING — Local police have launched a bait bike program in San Francisco’s Mission District.

Bikes in Arlington Heights are often stolen by homeless people who use the bikes for short trips or for a short duration, and then dump them. They know the longer they have the bike, the more likely they will be caught by Arlington Heights Police Department.

Bikes are frequently stolen right near the downtown Arlington Heights Metra Train Station that’s even monitored by security television cameras.

Should the Village of Arlington Heights open a public video stream of the security cameras on the Internet so people could call in suspicious activities at the bike rack — or even a bike theft in progress?

Part 1: THE BACKGROUND — Greg Schuler has been robbed four times and had eight bicycles stolen out of his garage.
